Cooking oil is a fat used for frying, baking, and flavoring. There are multiple types of cooking oil people use. The most common oils used are olive, canola, avocado, and vegetable oil. In order to know the difference between these oils, there needs to be a clear understanding of how to identify each type.
Seed oils are extracted from a plant’s seeds. On the other hand, other oils may come from the plant itself. For instance, avocado and olive oils are oils that come from the plant, as they come from the fruit avocado and olives. Canola oil is a seed oil that comes from the crushed seeds of a canola plant. Vegetable oil may be the one that can be confused as an oil that comes from plants, but it actually is a seed oil. This is because vegetable oil is a mix of different seed oils such as corn, soybean, and canola.
The distinction of seed oils and others are now clear, but the debate really comes from whether seed oils are toxic or not. Seed oils are highly processed, which leads some people to avoid them completely. Other arguments include how it causes inflammation because it is high in omega-6. However, scientific evidence generally supports that there is no direct link between the two. The real issue is the highly processed part. The truth is that seed oils are not naturally produced, although they are from natural sources. They also stay in the body for a long period of time that can contribute to many chronic degenerative diseases. This still doesn’t have a direct impact on health because most of the negative consequences stated about it are usually from the well-known symptoms people get from high calories, added sugar, sodium, and saturated fat. Many health organizations and researchers say that seed oils are safe in moderation.
It can be concluded that seed oils may not be as toxic as people may think it to be. It’s not proven yet to have a direct negative impact on someone’s health. However, when most people cut off seed oils, they are likely to cut out the unhealthy foods that seed oils are used in. The effects of high calories, added sugar, sodium, and saturated fat are clear, despite the effect of seed oils not being clear. The real problem is eating all these bad foods seed oils are used in.
